Located in Churchhaven, in the West Coast National Park on the edge of the Langebaan Lagoon, Samphire Cottage is an idyllic getaway, a mere 120km from Cape Town. Conveniently, the cottage is just a few steps away from a pristine white sandy beach and rich salt marsh wetland. Living off-the-grid, it is here that you can completely unwind.
Start your day with biking, hiking or numerous water sport activities, including swimming, sailing and kayaking. Or have fun on the beach with your buckets and spades. Enjoy long lazy lunches on the front verandah, with uninterrupted views of the glistening blue lagoon. Add in a game of boules and finish with a sunset stroll along the wetland. The evenings come alive with prolific stargazing, outside braais and crackling inside fires.
The cottage is modelled in traditional West Coast architecture, with simple and comfortable styling. The open plan living room and kitchen open onto a verandah and courtyard, which leads to the 3 bedrooms. This is a well-loved family home, rented through word-of-mouth and personal referrals. It is a secret escape where the sensitivity of water scarcity and solar energy need to be respected.

Low Season*
R 6 500 per night
High Season* (15 December to 11 January and Easter)
R 9 500 per night
* Low Season bookings: a minimum 2 night stay
* High Season bookings: a minimum 4 night stay
* Easter bookings: a minimum 4 night stay
Payment and Cancellation Policy
50% deposit immediate payment on acceptance of booking.
Full payment for High Season bookings over December/ January and, Easter to be received no later than 1 month prior to check-in.
Full payment for Low Season bookings to be received no later than 2 weeks prior to check-in.
For cancellation of bookings, 100% of the deposit will be refunded for cancellations made at least 3 months before check-in. 50% of the deposit will be refunded for cancellations made at least 2 months before check-in.
No refunds for cancellation of High Season bookings over December/ January, Easter and Flower Season made within 1 month of check-in.
No refunds for cancellation of Low Season bookings made within 2 weeks of check-in.
This lagoon paradise boasts one of the richest bird sanctuaries in Africa, known especially for its waders and the winter arrival of thousands of flamingos. You may even spot several antelope species or make friends with the resident tortoises. The rich autumn palette of the wetland is an inspiration for any artist. It also is home to an extensive variety of salt marsh plants, including Samphire. Forage this delicious, vibrant green sea vegetable with a distinctive crisp and salty flavour.
